Aberdeen Group - Derek Brink

Derek Brink joined Aberdeen as a senior high-tech executive experienced in strategy development and execution, corporate / business development, and product management / product marketing. He is a results-oriented leader with a proven track record of driving growth through new and enhanced product offerings, in companies ranging from start-up to Fortune 500. He brings a unique blend of analytical / technical background, combined with excellent communication skills and extensive information security industry expertise.

Before joining Aberdeen, Derek was RSA Security's vice president of strategy and corporate development, and was earlier the product line director for RSA SecurID. Prior to RSA, his experience includes director of marketing at Gradient Technologies (now Entegrity); various marketing and business development positions with Transarc Corporation (a subsidiary of IBM); corporate marketing with Sun Microsystems; and a variety of technical sales and field marketing positions with Hewlett-Packard. He began his professional career as an analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency.

Derek was an active member of the five-company team that co-founded the PKI Forum, and as RSA Security's representative was a member of the PKI Forum Executive Board and subsequently the Steering Committee for the OASIS Member Section on PKI. He is co-author of the book PKI: Implementing and Managing E-Security (ISBN: 0072131233).

Derek earned an MBA with honors from the Harvard Business School and a BS in Applied Mathematics with highest honors from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He also holds a second degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

 

Bloor Research - Nigel Stanley

Nigel Stanley is a specialist in business technology and IT security.

For a number of years Nigel was Technical Director of a leading UK Microsoft partner where he lead a team of consultants and engineers providing secure business IT solutions. This included data warehouses, client server applications and intelligent web based solutions. Many of these solutions required additional security due to their sensitive nature.

From 1995 until 2003 Nigel was appointed as a Microsoft Regional Director, an advisory role to Microsoft Corporation in Redmond in recognition of his expertise in Microsoft technologies and software development tools.

Nigel has previously worked for Microsoft as a systems engineer and product manager specialising in databases and developer technologies. He was active throughout Europe as a leading expert on database design and implementation.

Nigel has written three books on database and development technologies including Microsoft .NET.

He is working on a number of business lead IT assignments and is an executive board member of a number of privately held companies. He has significant experience in security and related activities and is practice leader for security at Bloor Research.

Nigel continues to write many papers and articles on IT. His latest paper for Bloor Research "Securing the Business Infrastructure and the Bloor Assured Business - A Perspective" was published in August 2006.


Current Analysis – Andrew Braunberg

Andrew has been a technology analyst with Current Analysis for more than eight years. As Research Director for the Business Technology and Software group at Current Analysis, Andrew manages the Enterprise Security, Data Center Infrastructure, and Enterprise Network Systems coverage. As the lead analyst for Enterprise Security coverage, Andrew focuses on the market and technology dynamics that are transforming the industry. These include virtualization, de-perimeterization, SaaS, the embedding of security into the broader IT fabric, and a shift to data centric security.

Prior to coming to Current Analysis, Andrew was the founder and editor of Data Mining News, a business to business newsletter focused on predictive analytic technology. Previous to that, Andrew was a journalist covering information technology in the defense and telecommunications sectors. Andrew holds a M.A. from George Washington University in Science, Technology and Public Policy and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

 

Enterprise Management Associates - Scott Crawford

Scott has more than 15 years of experience in information technologies and industry-wide insight on multiple fronts. An (ISC)2 Certified Information Systems Security (CISSP), Security Architecture (ISSAP) and Security Management (ISSMP) Professional, Scott’s expertise covers a diverse range of interests. He has pioneered implementation and research in multiple fields, from assistive technologies to sophisticated distributed-trust data security architectures to IT service management.

Prior to joining EMA, Scott was the first Information Security Officer for the International Data Centre of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) at the UN’s third headquarters in Vienna, Austria. As the CTBTO’s senior IT security expert, Scott was responsible for guiding the development of information security strategy and implementation for an organization representing more than 150 nations. In addition to establishing the CTBTO’s information risk and security policy foundations, Scott guided the deployment of security management systems and led the development of pioneering technology initiatives, including a worldwide data authentication regime centered on a public key infrastructure for which he was the principal designer and architect.Earlier information technology positions that Scott has held include systems management for a division of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, as well as for a division of Emerson. His work with entrepreneurial companies ranges from application development to investor relations.

 

Freeform Dynamics – Andy Buss

As a Service Director, Andrew is a member of the Freeform Dynamics management team, and is responsible for managing the company’s services portfolio for both end user and vendor organisations. As an active analyst, Andrew covers end-user client computing and access and infrastructure communications technologies.

Andrew is particularly interested in the convergence of computing, comms, security and management. Convergence remains a challenge for many IT suppliers, often hampering the delivery of holistic solutions. Andrew looks to bridge the gaps between technologies and develop solutions that bring IT vendors, their channel and customers into alignment.

Andrew has been an industry analyst since 2001. Prior to joining Freeform Dynamics he held a variety of senior positions within Canalys, developing services across both client (notebooks, desktops & tablets; smartphones, PDAs & navigation) and infrastructure (server & datacenter; IP routing, switching & wireless; security). Prior to this Andrew worked as a consultant in IT Service Level management working in diverse industries including government, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing and publishing.

 

Forrester – John Kindervag

John serves Security & Risk professionals. He is a leading expert on wireless security, network security, security information management, and PCI data security.

John is a 25-year veteran of the high-tech world. He holds numerous industry certifications including CISSP, CEH, QSA, and CCNA. Prior to joining Forrester, John was the senior security architect with security consultancy Vigilar, and he started the security practice for a Cisco Gold VAR, Flair Data Systems, where he was a principal security consultant. He has particular expertise in the areas of wireless security, intrusion detection and prevention, and voice over IP hacking. He has been interviewed and published in numerous magazines including Hospitality Technology Magazine, SecurityFocus.com, and Techtarget.com. John has spoken at many security conferences and events including ToorCon, ShmoCon, and InfoSec World.

John has a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from the University of Iowa.

IDC – Phil Hochmuth

Phil Hochmuth is the Program Manager of IDC’s Security Products service. In this role, he conducts primary research and provides insight and analysis on a range of enterprise security markets, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Information Protection and Control (IPC), Messaging Security and Web Security. His research also examines the convergence of these, and other, security technologies as enterprises address new and evolving data security challenges.

Prior to joining IDC, Mr. Hochmuth was a Principal Analyst at Yankee Group, where his research covered a range of enterprise network and security technologies, including network infrastructure, data security, remote access, mobile security, server virtualization security and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). He also advised Yankee Group’s telco and service provider clients on cloud computing, security and WAN services strategies. Before Yankee Group, Mr. Hochmuth was a Senior Editor at Network World, where he covered network infrastructure, IP telephony, Linux and open source and security. Before that, Mr. Hochmuth was a systems engineer at CNI Corp., a technology integration firm, where he installed and supported PC/server networks and prepress workflow systems for clients in the newspaper and publishing industries.

As an analyst, Mr. Hochmuth has contributed writing to many publications and industry groups, such as Forbes.com and The CIO Forum. His comments have also appeared in articles and broadcasts by various news outlets and trade journals, including The Wall Street Journal’s SmartMoney, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Toronto Globe and Mail, WBZ-TV Boston, CNN.com, Network World, Computer World, CIO, CNET, CIO Talk Radio and Information Week.

Juniper Research – Nitin Bhas

Nitin Bhasis a Research Analyst with Juniper Research. His areas of focus include mobile networks, technologies and handsets. Nitin has previously worked as a Technical Officer for a Consultancy Firm in India and has gained experience in IP networks, RF systems, VoIP, GSM, CDMA, 3G, UMTS, LTE, IP security, handoff procedures, Networking and mobile OS (Symbian, Java and Android). Nitin has a BTech (Hons) in Electronics and Telecommunication and an MSc in Mobile and Satellite Communication from the University of Surrey, UK.

 

Kuppinger Cole + Partner – Prof Dr. Sachar Paulus

Prof. Dr. Sachar Paulus is Senior Analyst at Kuppinger Cole and at the same time CEO of a small, high-profile management consultancy for security. Besides this, he is honorary professor for Security Management at Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences. He is a member of a number of advisory boards, among others, of RISEPTIS, the Advisory Baord for Research and Innovation on Security, Privacy and Trust in the Information Society. He was 8 years with SAP in leading security positions, responsible for Secure Software Development, Security Product Management, and Security of the Corporation (Chief Security Officer).

 

Ovum - Graham Titterington

Graham Titterington is a principal analyst at Ovum, focusing on IT systems security. He has advised clients on their strategy relating to information security, identity management, technical compliance, risk management, and business continuity. He has 33 years experience in the IT industry, embracing the delivery of systems for the telecommunications, defense, and electricity supply industries. He has assessed real-time systems prior to deployment in the aerospace and nuclear industries. He has also contributed to pan-European research initiatives in software engineering methodology. Graham is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered IT Professional, and a member of the BCS.

 

Quocirca – Bob Tarzey

Bob joined Quocirca in 2002. His main area of coverage is route to market for ITC vendors, but he also has an additional focus on IT security, network computing, systems management and managed services.

Bob writes regular analytical columns for Computing, Computer Weekly, silicon.com and Computer Reseller News (CRN), and has written for The Times, Financial Times and The Daily Telegraph. Bob blogs for Computing, Info Security Advisor and IT-Director.com. He also provides general comment for the European IT and business press.

Bob has extensive knowledge of the IT industry. Prior to joining Quocirca in he spent 16 years working for US technology vendors including DEC (now HP), Sybase, Gupta, Merant (now Serena), eGain and webMethods (now Software AG).

Bob has a BSc in Geology from Manchester University and PhD in Geochemistry from Leicester University.

 

The 451 Group – Wendy Nather

Wendy Nather is a Senior Analyst within The 451 Group's Enterprise Security Program, providing analysis on the current state of security from the perspective of a veteran CISO. Wendy's areas of coverage are on application security and security services.

Wendy joined The 451 Group after five years building and managing all aspects of the IT security program at the Texas Education Agency, which serves 4.6 million Texas students. In that position, she directed multimillion-dollar initiatives for a statewide external user base of over 50,000. She also provided security guidance for the datacenter consolidation of 27 Texas state agencies.

Wendy previously worked in various roles in the investment banking division of Swiss Bank Corp (now UBS), including helping to build Europe's then-largest private trading floor. Based in Chicago, Zurich and London, she also served as the first IT Security Director for the EMEA region, managing the security aspects of various mergers, IT operations outsourcing and the division's first Internet presence.
