Cybersecurity PR: Balancing Business with Art School

Can You Run a Cybersecurity PR Agency and Pursue a Hobby?

I’m going back to school. Art school. Crazy, I know, because I run a very busy cybersecurity PR agency, so the question is: can I do both – run a business and pursue a hobby at the same time?  You bet I can!  It’s what makes me tick and why I’ve been in this game for so long, with the same enthusiasm I had at the beginning of my career. Embarking on a new venture is exciting and exhilarating, a bit like a new friendship or romance. We all need new projects to keep us buoyed and invigorated, and I feel it’s a wonderful juxtaposition to all the craziness of running a business during the AI revolution that we’re all living in.

Finding Calm in Creativity

Oh boy, the idea of going back to the drawing board to think quietly with a paintbrush in my hand, and the cool feel of a lump of clay ready to be moulded into I don’t know what, is grounding and calming.  It’s only in these moments of quiet that you really get clarity on work, life, relationships, clients, and can look at problems from a totally different lens.  Being creative and thinking outside the box in the world of cybersecurity PR has always been the Eskenzi way, and it’s what has made our clients stand out from the crowd!

Encouraging Creativity Across the Team

A creative mindset is central to how we approach cybersecurity PR at Eskenzi PR. I’ve always encouraged everyone, new starters and long-timers alike, to take on projects beyond their day-to-day role. Right now, that includes:

It’s what people call work-life balance. I call it life’s elixir. It’s the team that makes it possible!

I could never pursue my passions if it wasn’t for the fact that I have the most trusted team of competent and capable people around me: Neil, Lara, Beth, Melanie, Charley, Tara, James, Dylan, Tila and Katrielle, many of whom have been with us for 14 years or more and know that even with a paintbrush in hand, I can pick up the phone and multitask at any moment, keeping our clients front of mind.

31 Years of Balancing Business and Creativity

Yes, I’ll be out for a few hours a week, but that’s nothing new. I’ve managed a highly successful agency for 31 years doing exactly that – bringing up kids, mentoring start-ups, charity work both in the UK and abroad, renovating properties, and most recently building a retreat in Spain.  So it can be done. That’s the beauty of working in 2026; we have the tools to multi-task, take calls in the car, or take conference calls from literally anywhere in this incredible world. I’ve been working like this forever, and I’d urged others to pursue their passions alongside their work – it keeps you young, alive, and in love with life.  And as my mother says, “Give a busy person a job, and it’ll always get done.”   So now I’m off to buy my rucksack and pencil case………
