How to write a good nomination for the Most Inspiring Women in Cyber Awards

It’s that time of year again! We’ve opened the nominations for the 2026 Most Inspiring Women in Cyber Awards and you’ve got just under a month to get your nominations in, as the process closes on the 9th January 2026.

In 2025, we had the most nominations yet, with over 250 nominees. It’s set to be another popular year. So, how can you make your nomination form stand out?

Show Don’t Tell!

Where possible, include clear examples of the nominee’s achievements, initiatives, or influence. This could include projects led, programmes created, communities supported, or measurable outcomes. Links are welcome!

Explain why they are inspiring

Instead of just listing job responsibilities, focus on what makes this individual stand out. What motivates them? How have they gone above and beyond? What makes their contribution meaningful?

Highlight contribution to the wider community

The judges are particularly interested in nominees who support others, whether through mentoring, advocacy, education, speaking, or creating opportunities for women in cybersecurity.

Use real-world examples

Personal stories, challenges overcome or moments of leadership can help bring the nomination to life and give context to the nominee’s achievements.

Keep it clear and focused

You don’t need to cover everything the nominee has ever done. A few strong, well-explained examples are more effective than a long list of achievements.

Don’t undersell achievements

If you are nominating yourself or someone who is modest by nature, be confident in highlighting successes. This is the place to celebrate impact and influence.

And now for some FAQs…

Who can be nominated?

Any woman working within the cybersecurity industry can be nominated. This includes technical practitioners, leaders, educators, researchers, advocates, students and those supporting the advancement of women in cyber.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes. Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged. Many women feel uncomfortable shouting about their achievements, but, in our experience, the best entries come straight from the nominees themselves!

Can I nominate someone based outside the UK?

Yes. Nominations are open globally and women from all countries are eligible. However, the travel and accommodation grant for the Ones to Watch is only available for those within the UK.

What criteria are judges looking for?

Judges are looking for women who have made a meaningful impact within cybersecurity, whether through professional achievement, leadership, innovation, advocacy, mentoring, or supporting other women into the industry. No feat is too small!

What information is required to submit a nomination?

You will be asked to provide:

  • The nominee’s name, job title, organisation, email address, and country
  • A written explanation (up to 500 words) outlining why the nominee is inspiring
  • Three words that best describe the nominee
  • Optional additional comments for the judging panel
  • Your own name and email address (as the nominator)

How long should the nomination statement be?

The main nomination statement allows up to 500 words. We recommend focusing on clear examples of impact and influence.

Can I submit more than one nomination?

Yes. You may nominate multiple individuals, but a separate form must be completed for each nomination.

Is there a cost to nominate someone?

No. Nominations are completely free. The awards ceremony is also free to attend.

When do nominations close?

Nominations close at 5pm (GMT) on 9 January 2026. The nomination form can be found here.

Who selects the finalists?

All nominations are reviewed by an independent panel of industry judges, who will select the Top 20 Most Inspiring Women in Cyber 2026, as well as five ones to watch.

What happens if a nominee is selected?

Selected nominees will be contacted directly via email.

When and where will the awards take place?

The awards celebration will take place on 26 February 2026 at the BT Tower in London.

Do finalists need to attend the event in person?

Attendance is encouraged but not mandatory. Finalists will be invited to attend in person and may bring a guest. Further details will be shared with selected nominees. Not attending doesn’t affect your chance of winning.

How will nominee and nominator data be used?

Contact details are collected solely for the purpose of administering the awards and communicating with nominees and nominators regarding the event.
