Whitepaper: The AI Autonomy Line

As AI agents become more capable of acting on our behalf – from managing diaries and booking holidays to making purchases and accessing online accounts – how much control are people actually willing to hand over?

Our latest whitepaper, “The AI Autonomy Line,” explores the British public’s attitudes towards AI agents, based on nationally representative research among 2,000 UK adults.

The findings reveal a public that is interested in the benefits of AI, but far from ready to give it free rein. 84% of Brits would only give an AI agent moderate or low control over their day-to-day lives, or no control at all, while more than a third (34%) wouldn’t be comfortable handing over any control whatsoever.

The whitepaper examines what these attitudes mean as AI becomes more autonomous, including questions around trust, human oversight, cybersecurity, privacy and liability. It also explores who consumers believe should be responsible when AI goes wrong – and why businesses may need to think carefully about the boundaries they put around autonomous technology.

Ultimately, the research suggests Brits aren’t rejecting AI. They’re drawing a line between AI that helps and AI that takes over.
